…an on-board programmable logic controller (PLC) from Siemens or Schneider Electric, which ensures their efficient and safe navigation. Effective AGV navigation relies on good communication between the AGVs and the factory’s control system. This communication enables the factory to track each AGVs' location, load, and real-time status. Mercedes-Benz’s previous AGV system used Bluetooth technology along with HMS’ Anybus Wireless Bolt and Bridge products. However, they wanted to improve the system’s efficiency and prepare to comply with the EU Machinery Regulation. “While Bluetooth worked well, we now want to enhance our AGV system to support higher throughput, fast roaming, and lower…

…final end of the line. Whether it’s a fully electric, a variety of diesel run on alternative fuels, hydrogen-powered or even battery-powered, the truck of 2035 is likely to be run on a completely different power grid than today’s traditional diesel fuel. “I’m excited about the momentum and investment occurring in our industry relative to alternative fuel types,” says Derek Leathers, chairman, president and CEO of Werner Enterprises, the 6th-largest truckload carrier. And that comment is typical of the thinking of today’s modern trucking executives. Top 25 Less Than Truckload (LTL) Carriers (Annual revenue, including fuel surcharges) Rank Carrier name…

…on-site managers to perform health, safety, and maintenance checks. Schneider Electric has used a modular design process to create Altivar process drives that can be refurbished, upgraded, reused, and recycled at the end of the first life cycle. According to Schneider, the modular design increases the life span of the product up to 20 years. Longer product life spans, in turn, will expand profit pools for specialized design firms, secondary marketplaces, and product authentication technologies.
